Old Pitt Town Road Intersection, Box Hill

Project Summary:

Menai Civil was engaged to deliver the upgrade of the Old Pitt Town Road intersection at Fontana Drive and Terry Road in Box Hill, a rapidly developing area within Western Sydney. Previously operating as an unsignalised four-way intersection, the project was undertaken to improve traffic management, safety and capacity for the growing surrounding community. The works included the installation of new traffic signals and associated road and civil infrastructure upgrades, delivered within a live traffic environment. Through careful staging, service coordination and stakeholder engagement, the project enhanced intersection functionality while maintaining access for motorists, residents and local businesses.

Scope of Works:

  • Bulk earthworks comprising approximately 2,000m³ of excavation and 2,500m³ of offsite material disposal.

  • Construction of 3,000m² of flexible pavement, including sub-base, base course, spray seal, and asphalt surfacing.

  • Installation of 2,000m² of concrete pathways to improve pedestrian connectivity and accessibility.

  • Construction of 900m of reinforced concrete pipe stormwater drainage to support improved stormwater management across the intersection.

  • Relocation and protection of essential services including recycled water, pressure sewer, potable water, electrical, gas, and NBN/Telstra infrastructure.

  • Installation of traffic control signal (TCS) infrastructure, including signal poles, controllers and associated electrical works.

  • Installation of road signage and line marking to support safe traffic movements through the upgraded intersection.

  • Implementation of traffic management measures to maintain safe vehicle and pedestrian access throughout construction.

  • Completion of property adjustments to accommodate the upgraded intersection footprint.

  • Landscaping and streetscape works to enhance the visual amenity of the surrounding corridor.

Key Features:

  • Delivery of the works within a live traffic environment, requiring multiple staged traffic switches to facilitate pavement construction.

  • Complex utility adjustment coordination, sequencing multiple service relocations and cutovers to maintain continuity of supply.

  • Active stakeholder management with motorists, residents, council representatives and the broader community throughout construction.
