Forest Reach Stage 2

Project Summary:

Menai Civil was engaged to deliver Stage 2 of a residential development in Huntley, NSW, comprising a southern residential precinct, a northern estate access road, and a bridge crossing Reed Creek to connect the two areas. The project involved a range of civil, structural and environmental works, delivered within a constrained site containing areas of Aboriginal and heritage significance, as well as a protected riparian corridor along the creek alignment.

A key challenge included the presence of coal wash material across the site, which required testing and remediation. Menai Civil undertook burn trials on blended fill materials, with the remediated material successfully incorporated into the works. The project also included the construction of a heavily reinforced concrete bridge, requiring coordinated dual crane lifts for installation of structural components.

Scope of Works:

  • Site clearing and preparation across the development footprint.

  • Implementation of heritage and riparian zone protection measures to preserve environmentally and culturally sensitive areas.

  • Dewatering of existing dams to facilitate construction activities.

  • Bulk earthworks comprising approximately 133,020m³ over a 152,300m² area.

  • Construction of 40m of culverts and installation of 3,040m of stormwater drainage infrastructure.

  • Construction of a reinforced concrete bridge structure across Reed Creek.

  • Construction of 940m² of reinforced concrete cantilever retaining walls and 550m² of concrete sleeper walls.

  • Delivery of 31,150m² of road pavement and 1,700m² of access track for fire trail access.

  • Installation of essential utilities across the development.

  • Landscaping and fencing works to complete the development.

Key Features:

  • Management of environmentally and culturally sensitive areas, including Aboriginal heritage zones and protected riparian corridors.

  • Remediation and reuse of coal wash material, incorporating treated material into on-site fill following successful burn trials.

  • Construction of a heavily reinforced bridge structure, including complex lifts requiring the coordinated use of two heavy-lift cranes.

  • Delivery of asbestos remediation works to ensure safe site conditions and compliance with environmental requirements.
