Sarah Fahey

People & Culture Manager

Mark is a civil construction professional with over 18 years of experience in both on-site operations and head office estimating. His expertise in project programming and strong commercial acumen provide him with a deep understanding of delivering large-scale civil projects. He has specialist knowledge in estimating subdivisions, building, bulk earthworks, and complex infrastructure.

As the leader of Menai Civil’s pre-construction team for the past 15 years, he manages pre-construction services, including tendering, contract administration, procurement, and budgeting. His analytical skills and strategic leadership have been key to the successful planning and execution of numerous projects.

Sarah has 8 years of experience in civil construction, specialising in operational and engineering roles. At Menai Civil, she has successfully led numerous community engagement programs for infrastructure and road projects. She oversees communication strategies and initiatives, fostering strong stakeholder relationships across project sites and communities.

With a background in medical research and education, her communication skills and empathy enable her to build trust and rapport at all levels. Outside of work, Sarah is passionate about social justice, actively participating in community initiatives and earning state awards for her fundraising efforts on behalf of individuals and charities.

Lee Fahey

Managing Director

Lee is an accomplished business leader with over 25 years of experience in the civil construction and plant hire industries. He founded Fahey Brothers Equipment in 1995, providing plant and float hire services, and later acquired Menai Excavations in 2002. As Managing Director, he has driven the transformation of Menai Civil Contractors into a leading civil construction company, overseeing key infrastructure projects while fostering a people-first culture.

A dedicated advocate for best practices in the industry, Lee is an active Board Member of the Civil Contractors Federation, NSW. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Sydney.

Iolanda Hazell

General Manager

Iolanda is an accomplished Human Resources professional with over 20 years of experience, driven by a passion for helping others and fostering collaboration. She has forged strong relationships across various industries, partnering with businesses to enhance employee experiences, transform company cultures, and achieve strategic goals.

Throughout her career, Iolanda has been instrumental in ensuring legal compliance while maintaining profitability and high performance. She excels in guiding companies to develop and execute strategic visions, with a focus on aligning and engaging teams at every level to ensure business success.

Glen Schembri

Construction Manager

Glen is a highly qualified Civil Engineer (AMIEAust CEngA NER) with over 29 years of experience in managing road construction projects. He has worked on large-scale motorway infrastructure, including rail, airport, and maritime projects, as well as local council construction and maintenance.

He has extensive experience collaborating with major utilities, Transport for NSW (TfNSW), Sydney Trains, and Regional Airports, ensuring compliance with project and stakeholder requirements. With comprehensive knowledge of D&C, GC21, and Alliance model contracts, he has developed into a recognised leader in the civil construction industry.

Mark Knox

Pre-construction Manager

Matthew has a strong background in Human Resources, with expertise in personnel management, HR, and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) legislation. He is skilled in managing complex safety issues and consulting on WHS matters while coordinating with multiple stakeholders. Certified in training, development, and evaluation, he has demonstrated leadership and management of teams of up to 150 personnel across various trades.

Before joining Menai Civil, Matthew gained extensive experience in Human Resource Management, particularly in dynamic and complex environments. He believes in empowering and motivating people to achieve organisational goals by fostering a culture of engagement and enthusiasm.

Vanessa is a highly skilled and dedicated finance professional with over 20 years of experience in accounting across diverse industries. She brings a wealth of expertise in financial reporting, administration, and analysis, alongside a strong command of data management, payroll processing, taxation legislation, and financial forecasting and budgeting.

She is known for her people-focused approach, consistently promoting strong professional relationships with clients and colleagues. With a commitment to delivering high-quality, accurate work, she thrives on challenges that allow her to strengthen her financial acumen and contribute positively to business outcomes.
